PREP ROUNDUP: Brookwood boys close out perfect Region 8-AAAAA schedule

SNELLVILLE -- Brookwood wrapped up its Region 8-AAAAA soccer schedule Tuesday night with a 7-0 shutout over Shiloh.

Brookwood, the No. 1 seed out of the region, will host Peachtree Ridge next Tuesday in the first round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs.

Trevor Mooney led Brookwood (14-3, 8-0) with three goals, while Malik Jalal, Cameron Grassmyer, Matt Gower and Luis Sanchez each scored one. Kelson Brunelle led the team in assists with two.

BOYS SOCCER

Dacula 4, Berkmar 1

DACULA -- Dacula closed out its season with 4-1 win over Berkmar on Tuesday night. Dacula finished the year 9-9 overall and 4-4 in Region 8-AAAAA.

Scoring one goal each for the Falcons were Joe Efford, Nick Sibert, Mason Davenport and John Mattiuci.

Grayson 3, Archer 0

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Adam Kremo put in two goals Tuesday night as part of Grayson's 3-0 win over Archer in Region 8-AAAAA. The next match for Grayson (10-7-1, 5-3) will be next Tuesday at Collins Hill in the first round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs.

Matt McGlamery added the third goal, while Callen Rhodes recorded the shutout at keeper.

Parkview 4, Marist 1

LILBURN -- Parkview improved to 13-3-2 on Tuesday night with a 4-1 win over Marist in a non-region match.

Jonathan Jarrett and Abel Nguyen each had a goal and an assist, while Zachary Welch and Jesse Benitez each scored a goal.

Danny Leviton also had an assist, while Diego Casillas and J.B. Rumbaugh shared keeping duties in the win.

Lovett 4, GAC 2

NORCROSS -- Greater Atlanta Christian fell 4-2 to Lovett on Tuesday night.

GAC fell to 11-5-1 overall and 7-2 in Region 6-AA, giving the Spartans second place in the region.

Paideia 1, Providence 0

LILBURN -- Paideia received a goal in the first half from Parker Tindall as the top-ranked Pythons held off third-ranked Providence 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon. The win gave Paideia first place in Area 4-A, while Providence (10-8, 7-3) finished second.

Stars keeper Evan Flowers turned in a solid game with eight saves, while Tyler Marhsall played a strong game defensively in the back.

Wesleyan 6, Pinecrest 0

CUMMING -- Paul Hogan had two goals and one assist on Tuesday night as Wesleyan topped Pinecrest Academy 6-0 in Area 4-A. Wesleyan (11-5-1, 7-3) secured the third-seed out of the area in next week's Class A state playoffs.

Adding one goal each for the Wolves were Eric Sunderman, Drew Sutton, Van Fletcher and Austin Schneider. Cort Coxhead, Timothy Marsh and Zac MacKenzie each helped with an assist.

GIRLS SOCCER

Dacula 5, Berkmar 1

DACULA -- Lauren Vick had a hat trick on Tuesday night as Dacula beat Berkmar 5-1 in Region 8-AAAAA. Dacula (14-2-1, 7-1) will host Collins Hill next Wednesday in the first round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs.Makayla Clack added two goals for the Falcons, while Sydney Thomas had two assists. Valeria Bermeo and Grace Boatright also finished with an assist each.

Grayson 3, Archer 1

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Grayson captured the third seed out of Region 8-AAAAA on Tuesday night with a 3-1 win over Archer. Grayson will open the Class AAAAA state playoffs next Wednesday at North Gwinnett.

Scoring goals for the Rams (13-4-1, 6-2) were Brittany Miller, Allison Pickett and Ashley Griffin.

Mill Creek 2, Alpharetta 1 OT

HOSCHTON -- Lauren Tanner scored a goal off an assist from Hannah Wilson in overtime to lift Mill Creek to a 2-1 win over Alpharetta on Tuesday night in a non-region match.

Tanner also assisted Mill Creek's first goal scored by Megan Hatfield in regulation. Mill Creek improved to 12-4-1.

Brookwood 10, Shiloh 0

SNELLVILLE -- Kim Fincher had three goals and one assist on Tuesday night in helping Brookwood to a 10-0 shutout over Shiloh in Region 8-AAAAA.

Francessca Ellis added two goals with two assists. Michelle Allen (two goals, assist), Meredith Towey (goal), Fiorella Gamarra (goal, assist), Lucy DeWitt (goal) and Cassidy Barker (assist) also contributed to the win.

Sharing time at keeper in the shutout for Brookwood (10-6, 6-2) were Taylor Strickland and Shelby Middleton.

GAC 7, Lovett 0

NORCROSS -- Rachel Garcia had four goals and one assist on Tuesday night as Greater Atlanta Christian blanked Lovett 7-0 in Region 6-AA.

Mollie Arrendale and Taylor Wagnon each had a goal and an assist, while Halle Huff added one goal. Heather Ferrari, Tayler McPherson and Kelsey Fervier also helped with an assist each.

Elizabeth White saved four shots at keeper for GAC (13-2-1, 8-1) in preserving the shutout. GAC will be the second seed out of the region in next week's Class AA state playoffs.

Wesleyan 2, Pinecrest 1 PKs

CUMMING -- Wesleyan secured the third seed from Area 4-A on Tuesday night with a 2-1 win over Pinecrest Academy. The match came down to penalty kicks, where the Wolves won with a 3-2 edge on PKs.

Darby Coxhead scored in regulation for Wesleyan off an assist from Christina Moraitis. Hannah Duane finished with 13 saves in regulation at keeper and came up with two big stops during PKs.

Paideia 2, Providence 0

LILBURN -- Providence concluded its regular season on Tuesday night at home with a 2-0 loss to Paideia. Providence (11-7), the fourth seed out of Area 4-A, will play Strong Rock Christian in the first round of the Class A state playoffs next Wednesday.

GIRLS TENNIS

North 3, Parkview 0

LILBURN -- North Gwinnett advanced to the second round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs with a 3-0 sweep of Parkview in first-round action on Tuesday night.

North had two singles winners in Shannon Bettiol (No. 1) and Hannah Serdinia (No. 2). The Bulldogs (15-6) also picked up a No. 2 doubles win from Lizzy Bradley and Arianna Callan.North will play the Roswell-Lassiter winner next Wednesday in the second round.

Mill Creek 3, Grayson 0

HOSCHTON -- Mill Creek posted a 3-0 sweep over Grayson in the first round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs on Tuesday night. The win propelled the Hawks (18-4) to a second-round meeting next Wednesday against the Walton-West Forsyth winner.

Winners for the Hawks (18-4) were No. 1 singles Madison Hahn, No. 2 singles Allison Weaver and No. 1 doubles Cailey Stevens and Mallory Kolts.

Wesleyan 4, Paideia 0

NORCROSS -- Wesleyan opened the Class A state playoffs on Tuesday with a 4-0 win over Paideia.

Singles winners for the Wolves (15-5) were Megan Kelly at No. 1 and Sarah Settlage at No. 3. Doubles winners were the No. 1 team of Kaitlin English and Julie Rodriguez and the No. 2 team of Katie McLaughlin and Katie Van Laeke. Wesleyan will play in the second round next Wednesday.

BOYS TENNIS

Mill Creek 3, Grayson 0

HOSCHTON -- Quentin Lavender won at No. 1 singles and Adam Gonterman took the No. 2 singles match to help give Mill Creek a 3-0 sweep over Grayson in the first round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs on Tuesday night. Mill Creek will play the Walton-Northview winner next Wednesday in the second round.

Also adding to the win for Mill Creek (17-5) was Brad Adkins and Travis Hanes with a win at No. 1 doubles.

Brookwood 3, North 0

SNELLVILLE -- Will George's win at No 2 singles clinched a 3-0 win for Brookwood over North Gwinnett on Tuesday night in the first round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs, The win put Brookwood into the second round where it will host Alpharetta next Wednesday.

Also winning for Brookwood were Mark Guentert at No. 1 singles and Matt Jones and David Brown at No. 1 doubles.

BASEBALL

Mount Pisgah 10, Wesleyan 7

ALPHARETTA -- Mount Pisgah built a 10-0 lead over Wesleyan on Tuesday night and held off a late surge by the Wolves to come away with a 10-7 win in Region 5-A action.

Joseph Sheffield of Wesleyan (15-9, 10-5) went 2-for-3 with a home run, while Will Anderson finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Grant Colton also drove in two runs with a double for the Wolves.

Providence 14, St. Francis 0

LILBURN -- The Providence offense exploded on Tuesday night as the Stars erupted for a 14-0 win in five innings over St. Francis in Region 5-A.

Christin Stewart had the big blow in the second with a three-run homer, followed by solo shot from Austin Smith, who finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and three runs. Adding to the attack were Austin Golden with two doubles and two RBIs, Josh Carter with a 2-for-2 day with a double and RBI, and Austin Loyd with a 2-for-3 game with two runs.

Luke Henderson was the winning pitcher, going four innings with one hit and four strikeouts. Max Broom followed with a perfect fifth, striking out the side. Providence improved to 16-9 overall and 10-5 in the region.

Hebron 7, Social Circle 1

SOCIAL CIRCLE -- Hebron finished its regular season with a 7-1 win over Social Circle. Hebron ran its record to 23-2 overall and 19-0 in Region 8-A.

Michael Dussling picked up the win, going four innings with no runs, two strikeouts and three walks.

On offense, Tyler Hutch and P.J. Westbury each had a hit and two RBIs, while Brady Shopped finished 1-for-2 with an RBI. Peyton Coker and Lou Stephens also each had a hit.

BOYS LACROSSE

Grayson 25, Mountain View 0

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Grayson improved to 10-4 on Tuesday night with a 25-0 shutout of Mountain View.

Leaders for the Rams were Ben Mertz with three goals, Zach Dirkse with two goals and five assists and Zach Cernich and Isaac Kerns with two goals and an assist each.

Douglas Bieber, Marcus Lindquist and Brandon Kelly also scored two goals each.

GAC 19, Dunwoody 0

NORCROSS -- Sam Harte had five goals with two assists and Whit Anderson added four goals and five assists as Greater Atlanta Christian blasted Dunwoody 19-0 on Tuesday night.

GAC (10-4) also received contributions from Peter Whiteneck with three goals and an assist, Gunner Cape with two goals and two assists and Eric Reynolds with a goal and three assists.

Courtland Jones, Britt Kennedy, Parker Stephens and Jake Rose added one goal each, while Stewart Butler recorded 11 saves at keeper.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Grayson 16, Mountain View 3

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Austyn Gorski had four goals on Tuesday night as Grayson ran away with a 16-3 win over Mountain View.

Maddie LaCavera and Lyndsay Parris added three goals each, while Eric Rice scored two goals. Anna LaCavera chipped in with a goal and four assists for Grayson (12-3), while Erica Welty saved 11 shots at keeper.
