ATLANTA -- Greater Atlanta Christian's track and field teams placed third at the Region 6-AA meet at Westminster on Saturday.
The girls scored 106 points to finish behind Decatur (121) and Blessed Trinity (115). The Buford girls were eighth. The GAC boys scored 73 points for third place behind Westminster (137) and Blessed Trinity (77). Buford's boys team was fifth with 63 points.
Maileka Slayton led GAC with four first-place finishes. Slayton won the 100-meter run, the 200, 400 relay and 1,600 relay.
The top four finishers advance to the state sectional this week at GAC.
Rachel Waldrop (discus), Courtney Fair (long jump), Brianna Cummings (high jump) and Brittany Arnold placed second. Sydney Cokley (pole vault) and Airica Palmer (200) were third and Kayin Mujghid was fourth in the high jump and 400.
Buford's Jordan Deep was fourth in the discus and Corey Staples was fourth in the long jump.
In the boys meet, Andrew Bartolomei won the discus and was third in the shot put. Lavondre Nelson took second in the 100 and fourth in the 200, while Christian Sharpe (pole vault) and Micah Abernathy (400) were third.
Abernathy, Kalif Raymond, Darius Slayton, Phillip Moore and Nelson also qualified in the 400 and 1,600 relay events.
Buford's Ronald King was second in the 200, Nick Angle was third in discus and the 1,600 relay team was third. Martinez Johnson qualified in the 200 and 800 wheelchair events.
