GAB: Charities benefit from St. Patrick's festival

LAWRENCEVILLE -- A local nonprofit organization of volunteers recently donated $6,000 to charities in Gwinnett County from money raised by a St. Patrick's Day Festival.

New Lawrenceville's Spring Green Festival raised funds through the sale of booth spaces and magazine sales.

Those benefiting from the donation included the Special Needs School of Gwinnett, the Lawrenceville Benevolent Fund and Gwinnett Medical Center Foundation. Each group received $2,000.

According to its website, New Lawrenceville is a nonprofit organization of volunteers "bringing community together and never using taxpayers' dollars for promoting the city of Lawrenceville."

The event will also feature a raffle and silent auction to benefit local charities.

Tickets are $25. The cost includes one raffle ticket. SACS CASI provides nationally recognized accreditation, the purpose of which is continuous school improvement focused on increasing student performance.

To earn accreditation, schools must meet SACS CASI's high standards, be evaluated by a team of professionals from outside the school and implement a continuous process of school improvement.

The Goddard School in Sugar Hill opened in July 2007. The school accommodates 300 children, ages six weeks to 10 years. Parents are encouraged to drop in for a tour or call the director at 770-831-2588 to arrange a personal appointment.
