ATLANTA (AP) -- Officials say a medical and biotechnology firm planning to build a manufacturing plant in Georgia has the potential to get nearly $80 million in state incentives.
A state workforce training program and the possibility of $78 million in incentives helped convince Baxter International Inc. to build its plant southeast of Atlanta.
The Deerfield, Ill.-based company announced plans Thursday to build the plant and related facilities, representing a $1 billion investment expected to create more than 1,500 jobs.
Ludwig Hantson, president of Baxter's international division, said factors including the state's workforce and transportation logistics also helped sell the firm on coming to Georgia.
The incentive money comes from a variety of sources, and some depends on how many jobs are created.

This is a much better way to grow Gwinnett than using gambling establishments. Baxtor is owned by Cardinal Health, who also has a huge presence in Gwinnett.
