LETTERS: Eastside making a mistake with cardio group

I have been a resident of Gwinnett County for more than 35 years. During this time my family and I have been admitted to Eastside Medical Center for care as required.

Throughout the years Eastside has changed managing systems and at times received less than satisfactory excellent ratings from time to time. Now Eastside has decided to suspend what is most likely one of the finest cardiovascular groups in the United States ("Heart trouble?" April 8, 1A). The lead physician, Dr. Lanny Lesser and his staff have provided excellent care and services to all people, including creating and funding free clinics for those unable to pay for services

Eastside is sacrificing the care of people in order to contract with outside cardio groups especially in emergency situations. Shame on you, Eastside. Watch the mass exodus of those of us that are able to take all of our cardio care along with Dr. Lesser and his group and God bless those many elderly patients that have relied on Eastside Medical Care along with this fine group of dedicated professional for years.

Why fix something that is not broken? Is the dollar that important?

I am also very concerned about Eastside restricting its cardiac care to only ONE group of physicians. My husband and I have had MANY hospitalizations in the past few years and actually moved closer to the hospital. Although most of those were NOT cardiac related our care was coordinated with our cardiologist from Gwinnett Consultants in Cardiology which has practiced at Eastside for over 25 years.

It will be a burden on us to drive the extra miles, but we will have to do so to go to Gwinnett Medical Center...even though Eastside is only 5 minutes away. We are appalled at the decision by Eastside to take away our freedom of choice. The only choice they have left us is to choose a different hospital :-(

If you think you are going to have a problem with Eastside doing this, you better double-check Gwinnett Medical Center. GMC has more departments outsourced than any metro Atlanta hospital. If you experience bad service from one of those contractors, I bet GMC won't be liable. You will have to go after the contractor. This brings a terrible heath care system to Gwinnett. Emory is pretty much a staff only hospital and clinic so you won't have health insurance issues for being stuff with out of network bills at GMC. Blue Cross is the worse company for giving you the shaft with bills for services at GMC. TOo many out-sourced physicans and services. They don't even do their own "readings" on mamograms and MRIs. I found that Trident is the only one in Gwinnett that does its own readings with their own staff.

I have heard Eastside's explanation of this decision and I doubt it. This is financially based, pure and simple. The public lost. BUT the public has options. If you have to go to GMC to use your lifetime cardiologist, why not go there for all other procedures? Forget Eastside who has Kim Ryan and a COO who care nothing, NOTHING for the community it is supposed to serve.

seems that GMC doesn't care much either since they outsource so many physicians and services. Your health policy just might make you pay a lot more if you go to GMC. Is that worth trying something new? Nope.
