GAINESVILLE -- Investigators intercepted more than $3 million in drugs this week and bagged several Gwinnett County residents in a case with likely connections to drug cartels, an official said Friday.
In addition to large amounts of marijuana and cocaine, authorities seized vehicles, tractor-trailers and cash, said Gainesville police spokesman Cpl. Kevin Holbrook.
Holbrook announced a press conference, scheduled Tuesday morning, in which more details of the operation will be divulged. It will be hosted in Gainesville and held in conjunction with a number of federal agencies, including the FBI, DEA and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Several of the suspects arrested this week are from Gwinnett, Holbrook said.
"I know there was a large amount of marijuana and cocaine," Holbrook said in an email. "I believe that it did involve a drug cartel, especially with that amount of drugs and money."
