Shame Blu-ray (NC-17)
Movie: *
Disc:
As the six featurettes make clear at various points, "Shame" is a movie about a sex addict (Michael Fassbender as Brandon) that includes graphic sex but is no way romantic or sexy. Much like Christian Bale's character in "American Psycho," Brandon is a self-loathing white-collar guy whose urges are never satisfied. He hates his life but finds some comfort in carrying out his obsessions largely undetected. This all comes to screeching halt with the extended stay of his sister Sissy (Carey Mulligan), a jazz singer with her own set of psychological problems. Writer/director Steve McQueen takes a misunderstood illness and paints in a most truthful but troubling light.
Technical specs: aspect ratio: Widescreen (1080p/2.35:1), audio: English (Dolby DTS-MA 5.1), Spanish (Dolby Digital) subtitles: English and Spanish.
