Loganville man charged with vehicular homicide

LAWRENCEVILLE -- A Loganville man involved with a recent fatal accident has now been charged with vehicular homicide and reckless driving.

Gwinnett County Jail records show Jonathan Blanton Bagwell, 28, was arrested Tuesday before being released on $16,900 bond. The charges stem from an April 10 car crash in which Bagwell and his Jeep Cherokee collided with a Chevrolet Camaro at the Lawrenceville intersection of Sugarloaf Parkway and Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road.

The driver of the Camaro, 22-year-old Kenneth Hayden of Sugar Hill, died at the scene.

It was initially believed that Hayden "turned into the path" of Bagwell's northbound Jeep as the light turned yellow. Charges were not filed at the time of the accident, but speed and right of way were still being investigated last week, Gwinnett County police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter said at the time.

At the end of the week, police issued a request for any witnesses to the crash to contact them.

It was unclear Wednesday if Bagwell's arrest was the result of witness tips or simply further investigation. A police department spokesman reached Wednesday evening was unsure what information led to the charges.

Jail records show Bagwell was also charged with driving under the influence in 2005.
