Charlie George Petty, age 87, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, entered into rest on Sunday, April 15, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 9 years, Enid Johnson Petty; son, Mike Mathis of Flowery Branch, GA; daughter & son-in-law, Barbara & David Cagle; son & daughter-in-law, George A. & Vicki Petty all of Lawrenceville, GA; seven grandchildren, Shawn T. Mathis (Araceli), Shane Mathis, Jennifer Mathis, Malinda Cagle Tanner (Larry), Jeremy D. Cagle (Robyn), Amy Petty Rooks (Marty), and Abby Petty; nine great grandchildren, Shayla, Christopher, Kaylie, Megan, Colton, Jonathan, Jacob, Farrar, and Luke; numerous other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his children’s mother, Vera Mae Petty, who he was married to for 48 years, his parents, a sister, Hazel Strayhorn, two brothers, Eugene Petty and Cline Petty. Charlie George Petty was born in Grayson, Georgia, on February 1, 1925 to Jurdie Moon Petty and George Ambrose Petty. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and retired with 35 years of service from Lockheed Martin Aero in Marietta, GA as a Research and Development Mechanic. He loved working on the farm and raising cattle. He enjoyed traveling around the country in his motor home and spent part of the year in Oak Hill, FL. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and loyal friend. He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew this wonderful gentleman. The Service Celebrating the Life of Mr. Petty will be held Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at 4:00 P.M. at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel with Rev. Larry Wynn and Rev. Jim White officiating. Interment will be at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Grayson, GA with Navy Military Honors. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 16th from 4:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. and on Tuesday from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
