CARY, N.C. -- While taking a break from a tournament in Cary, N.C., baseball players from Brookwood and Parkview high schools took time out to play ball with children who have special needs in a Miracle League game.
The high school players helped children with special needs bat, catch, run the bases and score runs.
The Miracle League is a national charitable organization that provides children with mental and/or physical challenges an opportunity to play baseball as a team.
Sweetwater Middle sixth-graders win quiz bowl
LAWRENCEVILLE -- A team of Sweetwater Middle students recently took home top honors as champions during the Southeast Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl.
The team of nine Sweetwater Middle sixth-graders beat 71 other teams to claim the victory.
Subjects in the quiz bowl included math, science, social studies, language arts, sports, art and music.
The team was made up of the following students: Kaitlyn Choe, Nabid Farvez, Alex Feldman, Kaela Mijos, Andre Nguyenphuc, De'Ametrein Robinson, Jeremiah Scott, Saadat Syed and Ariana Thorpe. Their coach was Sweetwater Middle teacher Lois Bean.
The local champions competed against teams from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina and South Carolina.
