ATLANTA -- Kroger's Atlanta Division, which includes Georgia, South Carolina, eastern Tennessee and northern Alabama, will donate $22,000 in grants to 10 Gwinnett County schools as part of its "Earning Plus Learning" program.
The annual contest invited schools across the division to creatively demonstrate how they promoted the 2011-12 theme, Healthy Living, within their communities.
Gwinnett County schools receiving grants included the following: $5,000 grant winners, St. John Neumann Regional Catholic School and W.C. Britt in Snellville.
Those who won $1,500 grants included the following: Burnett Elementary, Chattahoochee Elementary, Dacula Elementary, Grayson Elementary, Parsons Elementary, Riverside Elementary, Walnut Grove Elementary and White Oak Elementary.
The Earning Plus Learning entries took the form of scrapbooks, photos, videos, essays, news clippings and more. All entries were reviewed by a panel of judges comprised of local and regional community leaders and the Kroger Community Involvement Team.
Kids Marathon planned for May
LAWRENCEVILLE -- LifeSouth Community Blood Centers of Georgia is holding a Kids Marathon to help promote good health and physical fitness. The event gives children the opportunity to complete an entire marathon.
Those interested can register online and then go to the Gwinnett Braves' Coolray Field at 9 a.m. May 5 to run the final 1.2 miles of the marathon.
All participants will receive a T-shirt and Kids Marathon medal. Registration is free up to the day of the event.

Buford Ted's Montana Grill honored
BUFORD -- The Ted's Montana Grill located at 1680 Mall of Georgia Blvd. in Buford recently got top honors as Proprietor of the Year, Highest Sales Growth and Highest Guest Count Growth as the business celebrated its 10th anniversary at a local conference.
Dennis Martin was recognized for his work as proprietor of the restaurant and named Proprietor of the Year for the second year in a row.
