PREP ROUNDUP: South's Matics tosses one hitter in win over Central

SNELLVILLE -- Branden Matics threw a complete-game one-hit shutout with five strikeouts as South blanked Central 11-0 in five innings in Region 8-AAAAA. Drew McCarthy went 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs, while Mason Hart was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Ryan Patterson added a 2-for-3 night, while Zack Bogardts and Jordan Ramey were both 1-for-2 with an RBI for the Comets (10-11, 6-5).

BASEBALL

Providence 14, Pace 0

LILBURN -- Austin Smith smacked a three-run homer as Providence pounded Pace Academy 14-0 in five innings in Region 5-A. Austin Loyd went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Christin Stewart and Tyler Brown were both 2-for-2 with two runs scored for Providence (13-8, 7-5). Luke Henderson went the distance to get the win on the mound, allowing just two hits and striking out three.

Hebron 15, Prince Avenue 7

ATHENS -- Tyler Hutch and Brady Shoppe each went 3-for-4 with two RBIs as Hebron knocked off Prince Avenue 15-7 in Region 8-A. Jordan Hillyer added a 2-for-4 night at the plate with a two-run homer for the Lions (16-2, 12-0). Andrew Molnar went four innings while allowing six runs and striking out six to get the win. Michael Dussling went two innings and Drew Coker finished off the final inning to preserve the win.

BOYS LACROSSE

Mill Creek 16, Norcross 1

HOSCHTON -- Nick Kozlowski had four goals and two assists as Mill Creek rolled past Norcross 16-1 in Area 4-AAAAA. Alec Bussink also had four goals, while Patrick Fennell and Vaughn Greene each had two goals as the Hawks (6-6) put eight players in the scoring column. Alex Schneider got the win in goal for Mill Creek.

Collins Hill 9, Brookwood 2

SNELLVILLE -- Holin Axley and Kyle Burke each had three goals to lead Collins Hill to a 9-2 win over Brookwood in Area 4-AAAAA. Ryan Floress added two goals while Davis Bayles also had a goal for the Eagles (7-6).

Duluth 9, Grady 8

ATLANTA -- Brendan Eckard scored four goals and Wes Ramon and Ben Loyal had two goals each as Duluth held on for a 9-8 win over Grady. Charlie Hall added a goal and two assists, while Eckard and Ramon also had one assist each for the Wildcats (9-4). Nolan Pax had 14 saves in goal for Duluth.

Grayson 8, North 7

LOGANVILLE -- Ben Mertz and Hunter Dutton had three goals each as Grayson slipped past North 8-7 in Area 4-AAAAA. Thatcher Smith added a goal and an assist while Colin Marney also had a goal for the Rams (8-4). Josh Parris had eight saves in goal for Grayson.

GAC 14, Archer 1

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Whit Anderson had four goals and four assists as GAC defeated Archer 14-1. Sam Harte added three goals and an assist, while Britt Kennedy, Peter Whiteneck and Gunner Cape each had two goals for the Spartans (8-2). Peyton Tardy also had a goal for GAC. Eric Reynolds had two assists while Grady Vaughn, Conor Finneran and Kennedy each had an assist for the Spartans. Stewart Butler had nine saves in goal for GAC.

GIRLS LACROSSE

North 11, Grayson 9

LOGANVILLE -- After Sylvia Chow scored with 2.1 seconds remaining in regulation, North Gwinnett rode that momentum to an 11-9 overtime win over Grayson in Area 4-AAAAA. Lauren Aycock gave North (7-4, 5-1) the lead in overtime with her fourth goal of the game as the Bulldogs eventually pulled out the two-goal win. Chow finished with five goals for North while Victoria Del Nero had 10 saves in goal for the Bulldogs.

Archer 8, GAC 8

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Morgan McCalla had five goals and Brittany Gary had 16 groundballs as Archer battled to an 8-8 tie with Greater Atlanta Christian. Pamela Tvrdik had 16 saves in goal for the Tigers.

North Forsyth 13, Norcross 7

NORCROSS -- Maddie Godleski had five goals, but Norcross fell to North Fosyth 13-7. Rachel Holmes and Claudia Rivers also had a goal each for the Blue Devils. Along with Rivers, Lauren Garmon, Deborah Crawford, Katie Johnston, Zhake Radford and Sandra Morales were honored on Senior Night.

Marist 16, Wesleyan 14

NORCROSS -- Courtney O'Leary had six goals and Caroline Jordan had five goals, but Wesleyan dropped a 16-14 match to Marist. The Wolves fell to 4-7-1 overall.

GIRLS SOCCER

Providence 4, Mount Pisgah 0

LILBURN -- Kat Slayton had two goals to lead the way as Providence blanked Mount Pisgah 4-0 in Area 4-A action. Brooke Kelly added a goal and two assists while Allie Petmecky also had a goal for the Stars. Anna Bougas and Brittany Tuttle each had an assist in the contest. Jessie Kowalewicz got the shutout in goal for Providence (10-5, 3-4).

Hebron 3, Lanier 2

SUGAR HILL -- Hebron rallied from a 2-0 deficit to pull out a 3-2 win over Lanier. Bailey Pinto, Chris Austin and Ben Ungerer each had a goal while Eric Pitts and Ryan Thomas each added an assist for the Lions (8-5).

Providence 7, Mount Pisgah 0

LILBURN -- Taylor Henry had two goals and an assist to lead Providence to a 7-0 win over Mount Pisgah in Area 4-A. Will Lowndes also had two goals while Josh Platillero, Ted Perry and Robby Lyew each had a goal for the Stars (9-7, 6-2). Caleb McQuaig had three assists while Evan Flowers got the shutout in goal for Providence.

Parkview 110, Central Gwinnett 142

STONE MOUNTAIN -- Bridget Sandy shot a 50 to lead Parkview to a 110-142 win over Central Gwinnett on the Stonemont course at Stone Mountain Park. Parkview improved to 5-2 overall.

Mountain View 99, North 102

HOSCHTON -- Julia Nikolich had a 49 as Mountain View edged North Gwinnett 99-102 at Reunion Golf Course. Jessica Choi also had a 49 to lead the way for North.

Brookwood 84, Dacula 93

SNELLVILLE -- Taylor Allen had a 39 and Allison Gammie came in with a 45 as Brookwood finished undefeated in Region 8-AAAAA with an 84-93 win over Dacula at Summit Chase Country Club. Kiersten Nowell led Dacula with a 44.

Buford 101, West Hall 112

BUFORD -- Aly Hicks shot a 48 to lead Buford to a 101-112 win over West Hall at Legacy on Lanier Golf Course. AnnaBeth Mitchell added a 53 for the Wolves (11-3).

Gentry, Brooks lead Hebron

DACULA -- Hebron's Darby Gentry had a 36 and Reece Brooks had a 38 at the Trophy Club of Apalachee. Athens Christian had just one golfer compete and did not score.

Brookwood 155, Dacula 174

SNELLVILLE -- Drew Hutchinson carded a 37 as Brookwood knocked off Dacula 155-174 at Summit Chase Country Club. Patrick Hendrick added a 38 and Shawn Chong had a 39 for the Broncos. Harold Lei led Dacula with a 41.

Parkview 173, Central Gwinnett 232

STONE MOUNTAIN -- Aaron DeSilva had a 42 and Braden Gibbs and Charlie Kim each had a 43 as Parkview rolled to a 173-232 win over Central Gwinnett on the Stonemont course at Stone Moutain Park. Parkview improved to 4-3 overall.

North 169, Mountain View 173

HOSCHTON -- Ryan Humphrey fired a 35 to lead North Gwinnett to a 169-173 victory over Mountain View at Reunion Golf Course. Blake Padilla led Mountain View with a 39.

Buford 172, West Hall 214

BUFORD -- Joey Dando had a 41 and Jake Mitchell a 42 as Buford knocked off West Hall 172-214 at Legacy on Lanier Golf Course. The Wolves improve to 9-5 overall.

Athens Christian 184, Hebron 186

DACULA -- Hebron dropped a two-stroke match to Athens Christian 184-186 at Trophy Club of Apalachee.

GIRLS TENNIS

Lanier 4, North Hall 1

SUGAR HILL -- Lanier swept through the singles and also got a win at No. 1 doubles in a 4-1 victory over North Hall. Lauren Byrd at No. 1, Meg McRee at No. 2 and Lindsey Wong at No. 3 were winners in singles for Lanier (13-5). Carlie Overley and Jenna Soucia teamed up for the win at No. 1 doubles for the Longhorns.

Buford 3, Duluth 2

BUFORD -- Buford took all three singles as the Wolves edged Duluth 3-2. Kelley Cohron at No. 1, AnnaLea Stevens at No. 2 and Savannah Whaley at No. 3 got the victories for Buford (14-4).

Providence 4, Hebron 1

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Providence swept all three singles and also got a win at No. 1 doubles in a 4-1 win over Hebron at Collins Hill Athletic Club. Vani Crist at No. 1, Alex Schelesner at No. 2 and Abby Mazza at No. 3 won in singles for Providence (15-3). Katherine Harris and Robin Ferris won at No. 1 doubles for the Stars.

Johns Creek 3, Wesleyan 2

NORCROSS -- Wesleyan dropped a tight 3-2 decision to Johns Creek despite wins by Sarah Settlage at No. 3 singles and Katie McLaughlin and Katie Van Laeke at No. 2 doubles. The Wolves are now 12-4 overall.

BOYS TENNIS

Buford 5, Duluth 0

BUFORD -- Buford swept through all three singles and both doubles matches in a 5-0 win over Duluth. Buford (16-2) got wins in singles from Colby West at No. 1, Rob Hunter at No. 2 and Alex Turner at No. 3. The Wolves picked up wins in doubles from Skyler Wilson and Josh Thompson at No. 1 and Jabin Stepp and Nicholas Becker at No. 2.

Hebron 3, Providence 2

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Jon North won at No. 1 singles and Michael Turner and Robby Barker won at No. 2 doubles, but Providence (4-14) dropped a 3-2 decision to Hebron.

Apalachee 3, Loganville 2

WINDER -- Clayton Edenfield picked up the deciding win at No. 3 singles against his former team as Apalachee nipped Loganville 3-2. Edenfield, who played at Loganville the past two years, got the win with the match tied 2-2. Brandon Tovar and Matt Garrett won at No. 1 doubles and Branden Hamlin and Lee Vue won at No. 2 doubles for the Wildcats (6-8).
