Gwinnett County Police report to the scene where two people are dead and one person is injured after a confrontation in the Gwinnett Place Commons parking lot in Duluth on Tuesday.
DULUTH — Faced with a large number of police arriving at the scene where she shot two people and ran over one, a woman killed herself in the parking lot of a Duluth business center Tuesday night.
Gwinnett County police believe the woman, described only as an adult Asian female, pulled into the parking lot at 3802 Satellite Blvd. at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Stepping out of her white Lexus sedan, she shot victims described as an Asian male and Hispanic female before temporarily fleeing the scene, police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said.
A witness told police she left the scene but quickly returned and ran over the male victim.
The male was pronounced dead at the scene. The female victim was taken to the hospital and was in critical condition Tuesday night, Smith said.
An officer working a part-time job down the road was at the scene “very quickly,” and several more cars were there within “10 or 15 seconds.” They confronted the suspect before she put a gun to her head and killed herself, Smith said.
“They were out of the cars and giving her orders to drop the gun,” Smith said. “They were aware that there were people on the ground and they were going to have to do something quickly, but she shot herself before that could happen.”
A relationship between the victims and suspect was unclear Tuesday night, and their identities were not released.
Tuesday’s events pushed Gwinnett’s 2012 homicide tally to at least 14, nearly half of last year’s mark of 29.
