LAWRENCEVILLE (AP) — A fifth Georgia judge is backing down from hearing the case of a former Cub Scouts leader jailed since 2008 on child molestation charges.
Gwinnett County Superior Court Judge Debra Turner recused herself Friday, citing a conflict of interest. Turner says her campaign chairman was the suspect's divorce lawyer.
Four other judges had previously been assigned to the case of Harry Brett Taylor, a former Cub Scouts den leader who's charged with molesting or sexually exploiting 16 children. He has pleaded innocent.
One judge was recused because his staff attorney was a prosecutor when the case was indicted. Three others had community connections with Taylor.
District Attorney Danny Porter says he hopes to try the case this year.
