PREP ROUNDUP: Hawks' Hernandez drives in winning run

HOSCHTON -- Mill Creek's Tim Hernandez singled home B.J. Harmon in the bottom of the sixth inning, lifting the Hawks to a 2-1 win over Peachtree Ridge in Region 7-AAAAA baseball on Friday. Mill Creek starter Shane Seckinger (4-0) pitched seven innings, striking out seven and allowing only a first inning hit, and an RBI double to Billy Best.

After the Lions (11-7,6-4) jumped out to the early lead, the Hawks (12-5, 8-2) tied the game in the third on a Ben Crowder RBI single. Coltan Ramsey was the tough luck loser for Peachtree Ridge as the Lion hurler went six innings allowing just the two runs and five hits.


Grayson 15, Berkmar 0

LILBURN -- Grayson struck early and often in defeating Berkmar 15-0 in five innings Friday night. The Rams' (14-4, 7-1) Will Mahaffey pitched two innings for the victory striking out five Patriots.

Austin Meadows had a hit, two runs and a three-run homer, while teammate Korey Anderson collected two hits to pace the Rams.

Duluth 6, Collins Hill 5

DULUTH -- Duluth broke open a close game with a three-run home run by Edward Willemse in the fifth inning and held on to defeat Collins Hill 6-5 in Region 7-AAAAA. Collins Hill (6-8-1, 4-6) scored three runs in the top of the first, but the Wildcats matched that with three of their own in the bottom of the first. The Eagles scored single runs in the third and sixth, but couldn't overcome Willemse's decisive hit.

Willemse also notched the win for Duluth (7-11, 3-9) pitching five innings with Chris Rich picking up the save. Jimmy Shea and Mitch McCain each had two hits for the Eagles.

Shiloh 4, Central 3

SNELLVILLE -- Shiloh defeated Central 4-3 in Region 8-AAAAA action.

Grant Thiel pitched well in the defeat for the Black Knights (5-12, 2-6) striking out eight in six innings. Thiel, Luis Valdez, Josh Davis and Roy Clackum each had two hits on the night.

Lanier 5, White County 4

CLEVELAND -- The Lanier Longhorns (9-7, 7-5) scored two runs in the top of the sixth to defeat White County 5-4 in Region 8-AAA action. Trailing 4-3, Lanier's Matt DeWilde tied the game with an RBI double and then scored what turned out to be the winning run when Michael Diaz hit an RBI single.

Matthew Ramsey picked up the win for Lanier while Kameron Doster picked up the save striking out five hitters for all five of his outs.

Brookwood 9, Archer 3

SNELLVILLE -- Brookwood defeated Archer 9-3 in Region 8-AAAAA. Ryan Woodard was the winning pitcher for the Broncos (8-6,4-2) allowing only one earned run and striking out seven in five innings.

Woodard also contributed with the bat as he along with teammates Cedric Mullins, Clint Carr and Zach Moon each had two hits.

Parkview 8, South Gwinnett 2

SNELLVILLE -- Parkview improved its perfect Region 8-AAAAA record with a 8-2 win over South Gwinnett. Jesse Foster improved to 5-0 on the season with five innings of eight strikeout pitching for the Panthers (13-3, 7-0). Josh Hart and Jeff Ronpirin each had two RBIs for Parkview.

South pitcher Brandon Matics took the loss for the Comets (8-9, 4-4). Mason Hart had three hits and Jordan Ramey had two for the Comets.

Boys Soccer

Mill Creek 4, Northview 1

DULUTH -- Mill Creek used goals by four different players to defeat Northview 4-1 Friday night. Brandon O'Toole, Nathan Sutton, Tyler Moody and Nick Muntean scored for the Hawks (11-2).

Steven Arroyave and Conner Buckley combined in the net to shut down the Titans.

Parkview 6, Apalachee 1

LILBURN -- Parkview had six different players score and two keepers combined to beat Apalachee 6-1. Zachary Welch, Jeovanny Ramos, Able Nguyen, Jimmy Dyer, Jesse Benitz and Jose Diaz scored for the Panthers (9-2-2). Danny Leviton recorded two assists while Raymond Muro and Welch each had one. Diego Casillas and JB Rumbaugh combined in the net to shut down the Wildcats.

Girls Soccer

Northview 2, Norcross 1, 2OT

NORCROSS -- Norcross girls soccer team dropped a tough 2-1 decision in two overtimes to Northview Friday night. Jordan Lewter scored the goal for the Blue Devils (4-9-1). Norcross used a tandem in goal as both Kennedy White and Sydney Hannah played well in the defeat.

Peachtree Ridge 1, Centennial 0

ROSWELL -- Peachtree Ridge goalie Cosette Morche stopped Centennial's fifth penalty kick in overtime to lift the Lions to a 1-0 victory (5-4 on PK). The Lions improved to 9-4 on the season after the teams were unable to score in regulation.
