SUWANEE -- Fifteen Gwinnett County Public School students from the Class of 2012 have been selected as recipients of National Achievement Scholarships, an honor awarded to "outstanding black American high school students considered as having the strongest record of accomplishments and greatest potential for academic success in college."

Local seniors who received the awards join more than 800 other students from across the nation getting scholarships totaling more than $2 million as part of the annual National Achievement Scholarship competition sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corp.

The chosen students represent 10 of the district's traditional high schools and a charter school.

Students include the following:

-- La'Ron-Chenee H. Tracey, international law, NMSC Scholarship, Brookwood

-- Matthew H. Pack, engineering, $2,500, Central Gwinnett

-- Michael C. Glover, biomedicine/research, IKON Office Solutions Foundation Scholarship, Collins Hill

-- Nana-Adjoa Owiaah Kwarteng, medicine/anesthesiology, $2,500, Grayson

-- Alyssa M. Napier, scientific research, $2,500, Gwinnett School of Math, Science and Technology

-- Grace B.M. Assaye, pediatric neurology, $2,500, Mountain View

-- Anthony A. Morgan, pediatrics, NMSC Scholarship, Norcross

-- Caela A. Abrams, psychology, $2,500, Parkview

-- Jennifer A. Bunkley, chemistry, $2,500, Parkview

-- Philip M. Musey, government service, $2,500, Parkview

-- Bria N. Fincher, public policy/economics, $2,500, Peachtree Ridge

-- Kia K. Quinlan, pediatrics, $2,500, Peachtree Ridge

-- Elim S. Almedom, secondary education, $2,500, Shiloh
