School: GGC student dies in car accident

LAWRENCEVILLE -- A Georgia Gwinnett College student was killed in a car accident Thursday morning, school officials said.

According to a letter addressed to students and faculty from GGC President Dr. Daniel Kaufman, student Justin R. Ellington passed away in the car crash. Ellington was a transfer student from Loganville who began his studies at the school this semester, Kaufman said.

He was completing his sophomore year and majoring in history.

"Please keep Justin's family in your thoughts and prayers," Kaufman wrote.

It was unclear Thursday evening where the fatal accident occurred. A Gwinnett County police spokesman said he was not aware of any incidents in unincorporated Gwinnett.

Kaufman said that counselors were available for students at the college's wellness center. Funeral arrangements were pending, he said.
