Lilburn man pleads not guilty in law grad's death

MACON -- The Lilburn man accused of killing a Mercer University law school graduate has pleaded not guilty.

Stephen McDaniel, 26, entered his plea at a hearing Tuesday. The hearing ended with no decision on bond. Prosecutors sought a bail bond of $2.5 million. Defense lawyers said that would essentially be the same as denying bond.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against McDaniel. He's accused of killing Lauren Giddings, who was last seen on June 25. Five days later, police discovered her torso wrapped in plastic in a garbage bin.
