TUCKER -- Lance Cpl. John R. Wimpey Cagle of Tucker died Sept. 28 in the Helmand province of Afghanistan.
The 19-year-old Marine was assigned to 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
According to the Department of Defense, Lance Cpl. Cagle died Wednesday while supporting combat operations in Afghanistan.
He joined the Marine Corps in June 2010 and was deployed to Afghanistan in March for Operation Enduring Freedom.
Marine officials said Lance Cpl. Cagle will receive several awards for his dedication to the service, including the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
The incident is still under investigation.
Cagle is a 2010 graduate of Chamblee Charter High School in DeKalb County.
