LAWRENCEVILLE -- On Saturday, Georgia Gwinnett College, 97.1 The River and the city of Lawrenceville present the fourth annual Rock'n Rib Fest in Historic Downtown Lawrenceville.

Rock'n Rib Fest will include a family-friendly kid zone, live music, barbecue ribs, an Autumn Arts and Crafts show and the third annual Rock'n Rib Run for Breast Cancer 5K, presented by Tutus for Tatas and Fleet Feet Sports. Last year the Rock'n Rib Run had 215 participants that raised about $6,000 to benefit the walkers in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure 60 mile walk.

"This is a fall opportunity to bring people out together, " said Katie Peterson, city of Lawrenceville marketing director. "It's also in celebration of Georgia Gwinnett College. We are letting the students know we are downtown Lawrenceville and we have a lot of fun things to do."

New this year is a second music stage located behind the Gwinnett Federal Credit Union office. This will be the event's main stage and it will allow alcohol, unlike the stage at the Gwinnett Courthouse gazebo.

"While there is beer, it will continue to be a family-friendly event," Peterson said.

Twelve barbecue vendors will set up around the square, including Dickey Doo's Diner, which will host the Rib-Eating Contest at 6:30 p.m. Downtown and area restaurants will also offer food. McCray's Tavern, located on the square, will host a Burger-Eating Contest around 5:20 p.m. at the main stage.

According to Peterson, a highlight of the day will be a special presentation by Georgia Gwinnett College. After GGC President Daniel J. Kaufman gives an address at 5:15 p.m. and a tug-of-war ensues between students, the special presentations finale will be around 6 p.m.

"The special presentation sounds like it is going to be a lot of fun. They have put a lot of work into it," she said.

Bands providing music at the Gwinnett Courthouse gazebo include the Emily White Band, The Greys, Wayward Hounds, Tony Terry and 14 more acts. The main stage will host Red Zeppelin (a Led Zeppelin tribute band), Ian Schumacher with the Gwinnett School of Rock, plus ILL-Eagles (an Eagles tribute band.) Virtual Adrenaline Productions is sponsoring bands at the Gwinnett Courthouse gazebo.
