Ben-Hur 50th Anniversary Blu-ray (G)
Movie: **** Disc: **** It's actually the 52nd anniversary edition of the landmark sword and sandal epic; the restoration process took two years longer than expected but the wait was well worth it. The sprawling 3-disc set is stuffed with so many extras some may say it borders on overkill. The fictional story of a Jew (Charlton Heston) that was raised amongst Romans who witnessed the crucifixion of Christ snared a record 11 Oscars and set the bar for every epic period piece since. "The Godfather," "Titanic," "Gladiator" and many others would not exist if not for "Ben-Hur" first paving the way. Technical specs: aspect ratio: Widescreen (1080p/2.76:1), audio: English (DTS-HD MA 5.1), eight additional languages (Dolby Digital 5.1, mono), subtitles: English SDH and 21 other languages. Special Features: * Restored print * Commentaries * Screen tests * Documentaries * Heston's diaries * Newsreels * Full-length 1925 silent "Ben-Hur" film * Gift box packaging Warner Bros., $64.99More like this story
