BUFORD -- Financing for the high school football facility was a dominant topic at Monday's Buford City Schools monthly meeting.

The five-member board unanimously approved the $10,000 purchase of new goal posts for the field.

In addition, Superintendent Geye Hamby updated the board on staffs' continued efforts to price a new electronic scoreboard for potential purchase.

"We have not signed any agreements," Hamby said. He added that the current estimate is around $300,000 for a new scoreboard.

Chairman Phillip Beard said the funds collected in advertising revenue would help fund the project.

"Rent for advertising on the scoreboard ... it is a huge profit for the booster clubs," said Beard, adding that the new scoreboard would be about double the size of the current one.

At Monday's meeting, the board also discussed prospect of meeting AYP --the federally mandated Adequate Yearly Progress -- for the eighth straight year.

Hamby said it wasn't yet officially announced, but it was looking that way.

Beard said the school district is "getting into an elite group of systems" that have met the standards eight years and running.
