PREP ROUNDUP: Broncos win trio of games in own invitational

SNELLVILLE -- Brookwood picked up three wins in the Brookwood Invitational, blanking defending Class AAAA champion Jones County 8-0, defeating Veterans 5-3 and rolling past East Coweta 12-5 this weekend.

Brandi Jones got the win over Jones County, striking out three and allowing two hits. Megan Litumbe was 2-for-3 with a homer, double and three RBIs whle Taylor Sexton was 2-for-2 in the win over the Greyhounds. Jenny Blackwell added a run scored and two RBIs and Ambree Muller had a hit, run scored and RBI.

Mandy Blackwell led the way against Veterans with a 2-for-3 night that including a triple and three RBIs. Taiylor Rinehart was also 2-for-3 with a double and RBI and Nicole Truett was 1-for-1 with an RBI in the win over the Warhawks. Rachel Hill picked up the win in the circle that included five strikeouts.

Ansley Jones got the win over East Coweta by allowing just three hits and no earned runs. Litumbe was 2-for-4 with a homer, double, three runs scored and four RBIs. Mandy Blackwell had a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs and Brandi Jones had a pair of RBIs. Taylor Stercay was 2-for-3 and Susan Norris was 2-for-3 with a double and four runs scored for the Broncos (24-4).

SOFTBALL

Peachtree Ridge goes 2-1

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Peachtree Ridge (16-9) took a 4-1 win over Lowndes County and a 10-1 victory over South Forsyth, but dropped a tough 6-5 decision to Union County in the Brookwood Invitational.

Kayla Jones was 2-for-2 with a double. Sam Pierannunzi and Chandler Frisbie both went 1-for-3, and Noelle Kendig was 1-for-2 for the Lions in the win over Lowndes. Sarah Walker got the win, allowing just one run on four hits for the Lions.

Pierannunzi came back in the win over South Forsyth with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate -- including a homer, double and two stolen bases. Miaha Johnson, Walker and Chandler all went 2-for-3 while Ashley Sawdey was 1-for-2 with a homer and three RBIs.

Pierannunzi went 1-for-2 with a stolen base and Kayla Jones was 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs in the loss to Union County.

Mill Creek goes 1-2

HOSCHTON -- Mill Creek got a 7-0 win over Perry, but fell 8-7 to Harrison and 10-2 to Oconee County in the Brookwood Invitational. Tori Mitchell (13-2) got the win over Perry, but also took the loss against Harrison. Taylor Rogers led the way against Perry by going 2-for-3. Chandler Griffin and Anyssa Robles both went 2-for-4. Griffin had a grand slam and Robles a home run in the loss to Harrison. Griffin and Alissa Stringer both went 2-for-2 for the Hawks (21-5-1) in the loss to Oconee County.

Buford rolls to three wins

LOGANVILLE -- Buford rolled to three wins in the Brookwood Invitational as the Wolves knocked off Loganville 5-0, Luella 7-2 and defending Class AAAA champion Jones County 5-3.

Bria Bush picked up the win in the circle against Loganville by recording her fifth complete game and third shutout. Kallie Case was 3-for-4 with an RBI and three stolen bases. Jordan Deep was 3-for-3 with a homer. Tessa Daniels (11-2) got the win over Luella with her 10th complete game. Remington Hasty was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI while Aly Hicks was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a double. Deep added a 2-for-4 day at the plate. Bush returned to the circle to get the win over Jones County to improve to 6-3 and got relief help from Daniels. Hasty was 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs while Madyson Wynegar was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Kodi Ricketson was 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Wolves (22-8).

Wesleyan wins twice at Milton Tournament

ALPHARETTA -- Wesleyan got two wins in the Milton Tournament as the Wolves defeated Woodstock 9-4 and Alpharetta 2-1, but also dropped a 7-3 decision to South Paulding. Amanda DeLaPierre got the win in the circle against Woodstock. Landyn Duley was 2-for-2 wth a two-run homer and three runs scored. CaraMia Tsirigos went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Dacia Jones was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Jones picked up the loss in the circle against South Paulding. Katie Frerking led the way at the plate by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Jones rebounded to pick up the win against Alpharetta by striking out three and working out of a bases-loaded, no-out situation in the fifth with no runs scoring. Frerking had both RBIs for the Wolves and Caitlin Crabill was 1-for-3 at the plate with a run scored for Wesleyan (13-9).

Providence goes 3-2 at Milton Tournament

ALPHARETTA -- Providence Christian went 3-2 over the weekend at the Milton Tournament. Providence got wins over Forsyth Central 9-4 and Druid Hills 15-0 on Friday and 8-6 over Milton on Saturday. The Stars fell 7-6 to Social Circle and 13-0 to White County on Saturday. Providence led 6-2 going to the bottom of the seventh against Social Circle when the Redskins rallied for five runs to claim the win. But the news was better as Providence built an 8-0 lead against Milton and held on for the two-run victory. For the weekend, MacKenzie Tuttle went 8-for-14 with five runs scored and eight RBIs. Jessie Kowalewicz was 6-for-12 with seven runs and five RBIs and Brittany Tuttle was 5-for-14 with eight runs scored and eight stolen bases. Katy Barry added a 6-for-13 weekend with six runs scored and two RBIs while Bri Canady was 6-for-13 and Bethany Smith added four hits and six RBIs for Providence (10-12).

VOLLEYBALL

Buford splits pair

SUWANEE -- Buford split a pair of matches on the final day of the Gwinnett County tournament as the Wolves defeated Providence Christian Academy 25-21, 25-14 and dropped a 27-25, 25-12 decision to North Gwinnett. Maddie Jones had eight kills and Kaitlin Harper had three kills and 21 blocks for the Wolves in the win over Providence. Codiann Amis added 13 digs. Jessica Falletta had 12 kills and five aces in the loss to North. Maggie Roper added 11 kills and 15 digs while Bailey Hicks had 28 assists for the Wolves (14-10).

Hebron Christian wins two

SUWANEE -- Hebron Christian Academy picked up two wins in the Gwinnett County tournament as the Lions defeated Shiloh 25-13, 21-25, 15-10 and Mountain View 25-19, 25-21. Eden Murray had 28 kills and Maddi Roof had 13 kills while Savannah Blalock had 41 assists for the Lions (22-15). Hebron also dropped a 28-26, 25-21 decision to Parkview.

Norcross wins twice in Blessed Trinity Invitational

ROSWELL -- Norcross picked up a pair of wins at the Blessed Trinity Invitational as the Blue Devils defeated Westminster 6-25, 25-22, 15-9 and St. Vincents 25-17, 19-25, 15-9. Norcross did drop two matches as McIntosh took a 25-15, 23-25, 15-7 win and Johns Creek won 25-21, 25-15 over the Blue Devils. Kamilah Bakari had 21 kills and 18 blocks while Nicki White had 24 kills. Lindsay Holmes added 34 digs and Emma Wheaton had nine aces for Norcross (15-13).

CROSS COUNTRY

Brookwood takes boys title at Atlanta Classic

DOUGLASVILLE -- Brookwood boys cross country team placed four runners in the top 15 as the Broncos captured the team title at the Atlanta Classic.

Gabe Gomez placed sixth overall with a time of 16:10 to finish as the top Brookwood runner. Austin Veith followed with a ninth-place finish with a time of 16:15. Rounding out the order of finish for the Broncos included Chad Ceder in 12th (16:31), Joseph Buda in 15th (16:39) and Eliseo MaGallon in 53rd (17:22). Brookwood won the title with 89 points.

Mill Creek placed fourth overall in the boys division as Eric Westog led the way for the Hawks with an 11th-place finish and a time of 16:25. Mitch Flammang came in 14th (16:35) and was followed by Andy Hull in 47th (17:16), Tajay Hoppines (17:20) and Tyler Kvietkus in 51st (17:21).

On the girls side, Mill Creek placed ninth overall as Rachel Hall placed 18th with a time of 20:24. Rounding out the order of finish for Mill Creek included Lauren Hovis in 46th (21:!5), Emily Giles in 54th (21:25), Ashlee Varnson in 62nd (21:41) and Maria Amorosso in 68th (21:49).

Providence places first, third

CONYERS -- Providence Christian took home the team title in the girls division and third place in the boys division at the Aubrae Gunderson Invitational at the Georgia International Horse Park.

Evangeline Crist captured the individual crown with a time of 20:56 and Ellie Thomas was third with a time of 21:19. Hannah Grice was seventh (22:08), Rebekah Bullard 15th (23:18) and Rachel Bullard 20th (23:40) to lead the way for Providence in the A/AA/AAA section.

Jonathan Duffie finished third for the Stars with a time of 18:05 while James Watkins was seventh with a time of 18:10. Owen Chasteen in 11th (18:34), Nate Kindig in 53rd (20:16) and Tony Mills in 69th (20:37) rounded out the scoring for Providence.
