SUWANEE -- A local school is one of only two in Georgia to be recognized as having an "exemplary library media program" by State Superintendent John Barge.
He announced earlier this month that Parsons Elementary fit the bill for a facility that excelled in its services to students and staff.
"We are very proud of the accomplishments," said Mary Barbee, the school district's director of media services and technology training.
"Today's school media centers are the learning commons for the school," she said.
The media center was selected based on the role it plays in helping the school meet improvement goals and improve student achievement.
It's not the first time the local school has been recognized. In 2010, school employee Suzanne Skeen was named Gwinnett County Public Schools' Library Media Specialist of Year.
Others who work at the media center include Betsy Cummins, media clerk, Landa Torrence, local school technology coordinator and Maurice Rushlow, technology support technician.
