Ride scheduled as Twin Lakes benefit

WINDER -- Mountain bike riders of all sizes are asked to mount up Oct. 22 and compete on the trails of Fort Yargo State Park in Winder for a good cause.

Camp Twin Lakes is hosting a mountain bike fun ride at Will-A-Way, a kid-friendly compound inside Fort Yargo, to raise funds for their camps that cater to special-needs children, park officials said.

Registration for the race begins at 8 a.m.

Three different courses will allow mountain bike riders, from novice to expert, to experience Fort Yargo's "wonderful and exciting trails," race leaders said. The courses include an eight, 12 and 20-mile loop.Camp Twin Lakes works in collaboration with more than 45 different camp groups to provide customized programs, medical care and services for each population of campers. The money Spin for Kids riders generate goes directly to Camp Twin Lakes to fund costs for campers, according to the agency's website.

A Day Camp for children is also being offered during the rides.

Participants may register their kids (ages 5 to 12) for the camp, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday and from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Day Camp is free.Fort Yargo State Park is located at 210 S. Broad St. in Winder.
