LILBURN -- North Gwinnett swept through its three matches with wins on the opening day of the Gwinnett County Volleyball Championships.
North defeated Duluth 25-14, 25-12, Parkview 15-19, 15-16 and Providence Christian Academy 25-18, 25-19. Kristina Stinson had 24 kills, Gretja Otten had 11 aces and Alex Panks had 50 assists for the Bulldogs (38-6).
Providence put together a 2-1 record with a 25-17, 18-25, 25-19 win over Parkview and a 25-13, 25-20 victory over Duluth.
Parkview rallied to defeat Duluth 25-15, 21-25, 25-22. Riley Weyher had 19 digs, 14 kills and seven aces to lead the way for the Panthers. Courtney Duck had 16 kills and four blocks while Daron Blankenship added 43 digs for Parkview. Diamond Waldon had four kills and three blocks for the Panthers.
Collins Hill off to 3-0 start in Pool A
SUWANEE -- Collins Hill opened play at the Gwinnett County Volleyball Championships with three wins in Pool A as the Eagles defeated Central Gwinnett 25-8, 25-17, Buford 25-17, 21-25, 25-12, and Mountain View 21-25, 25-18, 25-15.
Samantha Rivera had 21 kills and Caitlin Conner 18 kills for Collins Hill. Katherine Ahlswede added 17 assists and 14 digs, while Sarah Stone picked up 21 digs and 11 aces for the Eagles.
Buford earned two wins in the tourney as the Wolves knocked off Mountain View 25-12, 25-14 and Central Gwinnett 25-7, 25-18. Maggie Roper led the way with 27 kills, 10 aces and 14 digs, while Jessica Falletta had 14 kills, 10 digs and nine aces. McKenzie Darrah added 12 kills, Amalie Gee had 10 aces and Bailey Hicks had 54 assists and 13 digs for Buford (13-9).
Mountain View picked up a 25-12, 25-5 win over Central Gwinnett to close out the action.
Mill Creek goes 3-0 in Pool B
DACULA -- Mill Creek went 3-0 in Pool B on the opening day of the Gwinnett County Volleyball Championships.
The Hawks (27-10) defeated Berkmar 25-7, 25-10, Dacula 25-15, 25-14 and Grayson 25-13, 16-25, 25-11.
Meanwhile, Dacula finished the day 2-1 with wins over Grayson 25-19, 25-15 and Berkmar 25-23, 25-19. Kimberly MacIntyre led the Dacula attack with 25 digs and 14 kills and Casey Wilson had 31 digs for the Falcons.
Grayson rallied to knock off Berkmar 25-21, 25-7.
GAC takes three in Pool C
NORCROSS -- Greater Atlanta Christian went a perfect 3-0 during the opening day of the Gwinnett County Volleyball Championships. The Spartans (28-4) defeated Meadowcreek 25-7, 25-5, Peachtree Ridge 25-19, 25-21 and Shiloh 25-6, 25-13.
Dede Bohannon had 17 kills and Jess Baker added 11 kills for GAC, while Catherine Chason had 25 digs and 11 aces. Jennis McCarty added 15 assists and Rachel Waldrop had 37 assists for the Spartans.
Peachtree Ridge finished the day 2-1 as the Lions took down Shiloh 25-12, 29-27 and Meadowcreek 25-12, 25-5. Lucy Riddle had 32 assists, 16 kills and nine aces for Peachtree Ridge (25-12) and Eleonora Porazzi had 13 kills and eight aces. Lauren Greene added 12 kills and nine aces for the Lions, while Becca Meyer had 12 kills and Emma Briggette had four kills.
Shiloh defeated Meadowcreek 25-23, 25-8 to complete pool play.
Wesleyan 3-0 in Pool E action
NORCROSS -- Wesleyan rolled to three straight wins in opening-round action at the Gwinnett County Volleyball Championships as the Wolves took care of Brookwood 25-12, 17-25, 15-8, Hebron Christian Academy 25-16, 25-10 and Archer 25-11, 25-11.
Jennifer Miller had 14 aces and 36 digs and Callie Bivings added 45 assists, 13 digs, 10 aces and eight kills for Wesleyan (24-9). Alana Broe chipped in 20 kills and Natalie Connor had 10 aces for the Wolves.
Brookwood (29-8) rebounded to take care of Archer 25-9, 25-15 and Hebron Christian 25-21, 25-19. Erin Shelton had 24 kills and Maggie Collins added 17 kills for the Broncos. Bethany Easom added 69 assists for Brookwood.
Hebron (20-14) got back on the winning track with a 25-21, 25-14 win over Archer. Maddi Roof had 14 kills, Mini Schulte 11 kills, Mollie Russell 10 kills and Savannah Blalock 44 assists for the Lions.
Collins Hill 7, Duluth 3
DULUTH -- Calli Star went 3-for-4 with two runs scored as Collins Hill rallied past Duluth 7-3 in Region 7-AAAAA.
Laine Simmons was 1-for-1 with a double for the Eagles (17-4, 7-3), who trailed 1-0 heading to the fifth inning and then plated four runs to go ahead for good. Jeanie Perrucci and Lindsey McKinney each went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Reina Sycamore went 2-for-3 to lead the Duluth attack. Erin Lipps was 1-for-2 for the Wildcats (16-10, 5-6).
Mountain View 8, Norcross 0
LAWRENCEVILLE -- Kaylee Hennelly picked up the win in the circle as Mountain View took an 8-0 win over Norcross in 7-AAAAA action. Taylor Miller and Meghan Tonnesen both went 2-for-3 to pace the Bears' offense.
GAC 4, Brookwood 3
SNELLVILLE -- Greater Atlanta Christian stunned Class AAAAA's No. 1 team, Brookwood, in the Broncos' tournament Wednesday night with a 4-3 win on Sierra Lawrence's solo home run.
Lawrence's homer in the fifth inning of a six-inning game broke a 3-3 tie after the Spartans (20-3) had taken a 3-0 lead. Sydney Smartt singled in two runs as GAC took a first-inning lead, then Brianna Stewart's sacrifice fly brought home GAC's third run.
Natalie deLatour (10-2) was the winning pitcher, scattering five hits and allowing just one earned run.
