PREP ROUNDUP: Bell homers to lead Mill Creek to 8-6 win

HOSCHTON -- Morgan Bell hit a walk-off three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead Mill Creek to a 8-6 win over Apalachee in the Brookwood Invitational Tournament.

Bell finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Jess Grimes (3-0) got the win after Bell's heroics. Taylor Rogers was 2-for-4 with an inside-the-park home run and two RBIs. Jenna Holland was also 2-for-4. Mill Creek came back in the second game of the night to edge Hillgrove 3-2 as Tori Mitchell (12-1) got the win in the circle. Mitchell went seven innings and allowed just one earned run and five hits. Anyssa Robles home run in the fourth inning broke a 2-2 tie to send the Hawks to victory.

SOFTBALL

North Gwinnett sweeps pair

SUWANEE -- Strong pitching led North Gwinnett to a pair of wins in the opening round of the Brookwood Invitational Tournament as the Bulldogs defeated South Forsyth 8-1 and Allatoona 7-1.

Kinsley Jennings picked up the win in the circle against the Eagles and allowed just one unearned run off five hits. Megan Kimble and Katie Black each had RBI doubles and Lacey Najafi, Miranda Strother and Sydney O'Neill all had singles for the Bulldogs.

Emily Wood got the win in the second game against Allatoona by scattering six hits and striking out two. Meanwhile, North pounded out 13 hits, including Kelsey Summers' grand slam in the second inning. Tori Prince was 3-for-3 with two RBIs while Alaina Hall and Kendall McKinney each had a double in the game for North (14-8).

Peachtree Ridge splits

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Sarah Walker pitched a five-hitter and allowed one earned run to lead Peachtree Ridge to a 4-3 win over Archer in the Brookwood Invitational Tournament.

Walker improved to 7-5 in the circle for the season. Ashley Sawdey went 2-for-3, including a two-RBI double in the sixth to give the Lions the lead. Kayla Jones and Brandi Mason each went 1-for-2 and Sam Pierannunzi had a sacrifice fly for the Lions (14-8).

Peachtree Ridge dropped the second game of the night to Oconee County 8-0.

Collins Hill takes two

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Collins Hill swept its way to two wins as the Eagles blanked Central Gwinnett 17-0 and Eastside 10-0 in the Brookwood Invitational Tournament.

In the first game against Central, Mckenzie Halstead went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI and Danielle Patterson was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Danielle Koletsos was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Laine Simmons was 2-for-3. Payton Wilson was 2-for-3 and Emily Buck went 2-for-2 with three runs scored in the second game against Eastside.

Patterson added to her impressive day with a 3-for-3 night at the plate while Brea Dickey was 2-for-3. with an RBI. Amanda Chance picked up the complete-game win in the circle.

Parkview 12, Norcross 9

LILBURN -- Freshman Kylie Gabrielson picked up her first win as Parkview defeated Norcross 12-9 in the Brookwood Invitational Tournament.

Patty Dennison went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs while Morgan Robinson was 2-for-3 with a triple, double and three RBIs for the Panthers (12-9). Amanda Chambers was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two doubles and Taylor Muirhead was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Jean Gillentine had two home runs on a 2-for-3 night for the Blue Devils and Stephanie Branch went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Norcross 10, Gainesville 1

LILBURN -- Norcross rebounded from its loss to Parkview with a 10-1 win over Gainesville for the Blue Devils' first win of the season.

Jean Gillentine threw a seven-inning two-hitter for the win and Stephanie Branch was 2-for-3, Kelly Quigley was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Rickary Holloman went 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Buford splits with Grayson, Northgate

LOGANVILLE -- Buford split a pair of games in the Brookwood Invitational Tournament as the Wolves blanked Grayson 11-0 and dropped a 2-1 decision to Northgate.

Tessa Daniels improved to 9-2 in the circle with her eighth complete game and third shutout of the season in the win over Grayson, Lexi Overstreet led the way at the plate with a 3-for-3 night that included a two-run homer, double, three runs and five RBIs. Jordan Deep was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and Rebekah Rude went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Kallie Case also went 1-for-2 with three runs scored and three stolen bases.

In the nightcap, Buford was limited to just three hits against Northgate and Bria Bush picked up the tough-luck loss despite allowing just one unearned run on five hits while striking out four. Case, Deep and Rude had Buford's three hits as the Wolves dropped to 18-8 overall.

Providence Christian 9, King's Ridge 0

LILBURN -- Senior Bri Canady threw a two-hitter and struck out five as Providence Christian Academy blanked King's Ridge 9-0 on Senior Night at Providence. Brittany Tuttle led the way at the plate with a 3-for-3 day that included three runs scored, three stolen bases and two RBIs. Jessie Kowalewicz also went 3-for-3 with an RBI triple while Anna Stahl was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Wesleyan 2, Westminster 0

ALPHARETTA -- Dacia Jones threw a complete-game one-hitter to lead Wesleyan past Westminster 2-0 in the opening round of the Milton Tournament at North Park.

Jones (6-4) struck out seven and allowed just a fifth-inning single as Wesleyan improved to 11-7 overall. Katie Frerking went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI and Landyn Duly was 1-for-3 with a triple and one run scored. Emily Farrow added a 2-for-3 night at the plate with two singles.

Norcross cruises past Central Gwinnett

NORCROSS -- Norcross celebrated Senior Night in a winning way as the Blue Devils rolled over Central Gwinnett 25-7, 25-9, 25-11. Seniors Shelby Bruce (eight aces), Katei Janowiak (seven aces), Cassidy Lee (seven digs) and Kamilah Bakari (seven kills, three blocks) led the way as Norcross improved to 12-10 for the season.
