DACULA -- Puckett's Mill Elementary was one of many elementary schools in Gwinnett County and around the world that celebrated International Peace Day on Wednesday.

Students used their creativity to make pinwheels and decorate them, designing each with a unique touch that "exemplified peace to them," said Puckett's Mill teacher Beau Pezoldt.

More than 1,100 students held their pinwheels in the air while singing "Heal the World" in unison.

Said teacher Joyce Dorian: "The idea is that each child is able to express through art their feelings about peace on every pinwheel."

Dorian said it also ties in with the school's anti-bullying push.

In addition, principal Michelle Farmer read a story about peace to each grade level.

According to the website, more than 3.5 million pinwheels were "spinning for peace" on Wednesday.
