BREAKDOWN: Blessed Trinity at GAC

Blessed Trinity Titans (6-AA, Div. B)

Coach: Tim McFarlin

Record: 1-2

Last week: Had a bye

GAC Spartans (6-AA, Div. A)

Coach: Tim Cokely

Record: 4-0

Last week: Beat Westminster 49-10

There is plenty of history between these two schools, who played twice last season. GAC won both games, including a 24-19 victory in the region play-in game that sent the Spartans to the playoffs and ended the Titans' season.

"Last year we were in two close games with them and we were very fortunate to come out on top," GAC head coach Tim Cokely said.

Blessed Trinity has a new coach now in Tim McFarlin, previously the head coach at Roswell, but still the same physical style with a stout defense that held its last two opponents to 14 points. GAC has played solid defense as well, shutting down Westminster in the Georgia Dome last week with DeSean Daniels, Jonathan Ford and Parker Fair leading the way.

The defensive effort a week ago was overshadowed somewhat by the Spartans' 49-point offensive outburst. Kaliff Raymond was a spark with two touchdown catches, while Delano Spencer emerged as the starter in the three-person quarterback race with five touchdown passes. The other two QBs will still be involved with David McTier seeing time at wide receiver and defensive back, while Jared Chapple has been practicing at defensive end.

"We have a lot of guys sacrificing for the good of the team," Cokely said. "They're very unselfish."

Last meeting: GAC won 24-19 last year in a region play-in game
