Grayson City Park hosts Blues and Brews festival

GRAYSON -- Calling all beer aficionados: for the second year, the city of Grayson is hosting the Blues and Brews Craft Beer Festival and Concert in Grayson City Park on Saturday afternoon as a fundraiser for the Grayson Downtown Development Authority, Grayson Cluster Schools Foundation and the Grayson Children's Fund. They expect 1,500 to 2,000 people to show up, double the attendance of last year.

For the cover charge, people receive a glass to try all of the beers in the park.

There will be more than 50 breweries -- large and small -- from across the country offering 150 varieties of beer. The list consists everything from wheat blends to Indian Pale Ales to porters, so there is something for every palate.

"Some of the big names that everyone knows (will be at the festival), but we'll also have ones that I've (and others) never heard of that I want to taste," Gail Moore, co-chair of the festival said.

Some of the larger names that consumers will recognize are Guinness, Yuengling and Heineken, plus Georgia's Terrapin from Athens, Red Brick and SweetWater from Atlanta. There are new releases to the scene for people to taste test, including Monday Night Brewing based in Atlanta and Red Hare Brew of Marietta.

In this year's festival, the organizers have added two new things. First, there will be local restaurants as vendors in the park selling food to hungry attendees. Second, a local Georgia brewery will win the award of "People's Choice."

There is more to the event than craft beer -- there is also a concert with three bluesy rock groups taking stage: Delta Moon, Gwinnett's Critical Velocity and Loganville's The Grant & Moe Show with Buddy on Bass.

Children and pets are not allowed into the festival.
