LAWRENCEVILLE -- A Salt Lake City man was booked Sunday in the Gwinnett County Jail on charges he stole a vehicle and set it ablaze in a Waffle House parking lot six months ago, authorities said.
Police and fire investigators charged Steven Roger Vu, 25, with theft by taking and first-degree arson. Investigators believe Vu stole a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox from the fuel pump at a Lawrenceville Shell Station about 4:30 a.m. on March 28. About an hour later, he set the vehicle on fire in the parking lot of a Waffle House in the 4100 block of Sugarloaf Parkway in Lawrenceville, said Fire Department spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge. Firefighters found the vehicle engulfed in flames. No other damages or injuries were reported. Investigators wouldn't release a motive or other details about the crimes, citing the ongoing investigation, Rutledge said. Vu, a Utah resident who formerly lived in Lawrenceville, was booked in the Gwinnett County Jail by a prisoner transport service. It wasn't clear Monday where -- or under what circumstances -- he'd been apprehended, Rutledge said. Vu remains jailed without bond.More like this story
