DACULA — A shed used to store golf carts at the Trophy Club at Appalachee Farms in Dacula was destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon.
The fire was reported just after 1 p.m. when someone on the golf course saw smoke and flames coming from the building.
Firefighters could see a large column of black smoke from a distance as they responded to the scene, Gwinnett County Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said.
"The building was fully involved on both sides when the first fire truck arrived at 1:26 p.m.," he said. "Crews deployed attack lines to control the blaze and protect nearby exposures."
About 30-35 electric powered carts were being charged inside the building at the time of the fire. The building and the carts are a total loss.
Rutledge said the blaze also scorched several trees and part of the grass surrounding the building as crews dealt with gusty wind conditions.
There was no one inside the building when the fire broke out and no injuries were reported.
The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
