ATLANTA -- It took three games for nationally ranked Pope to beat GAC in the finals of the Lovett Block Party, but the loss didn't damper a good day for the Spartans, who went 5-1.
GAC picked up straight-game wins over Johns Creek, Blufton, Lassiter, Starr's Mill and Northgate before taking Pope to the decisive third game, losing 15-7.
On the day, Dede Bohannon had 60 kills and 34 digs, Ali Cox had 16 kills and five blocks, Janaya Simmons had 35 digs and seven blocks, Jess Baker had six blocks, Catherine Chason had 70 digs and Rachl Waldrop dished out 104 assists for the Spartans (25-4).
North wins crown in Collins Hill Classic
SUWANEE -- Kristin Stinson served four straight aces to finish off Peachtree Ridge on Saturday and give North Gwinnett the crown in the Collins Hill Classic.
Stinson, who had 38 kills, was named tournament MVP for the Bulldogs (34-6), who also beat Dacula twice and Collins Hill enroute to the title. Alex Panks had 69 kills, Miller Howard added 21 kills and 17 digs and Matia Hughes had 32 digs on the day for North.
Eagles finish own tourney 2-1
SUWANEE -- Collins Hill went 2-1 in the Collins Hill Classic volleyball tournament Saturday.
Led by 52 assists and 10 digs from Katherine Ahlswede, the Eagles beat South Forsyth and Hebron before falling to North Gwinnett to end the day. Samantha Rivera had 15 kills and seven blocks for the Eagles Courtney Oster had seven kills, 11 assists and 19 digs and Sarah Stone ended the day with six kills, four aces and 23 digs.
Lions fall in finals
SUWANEE -- Peachtree Ridge took a pair of wins over Wesleyan, beat Berkmar and Milton before falling to North Gwinnett in the Gold Bracket finals of the Collins Hill Classic.
Eleonora Porazzi had 23 assists, 58 kills, two blocks and 17 digs on the day, Lucy Riddle had seven aces, 85 assists, 36 kills, nine blocks and 19 digs, Lauren Greene had 12 aces, nine assists, 18 kills and four blocks and Haley Harvey ended the day with 31 digs for the Lions (22-10).
Norcross reaches Silver finals
SUWANEE -- Norcross picked up two wins over Tucker, and beat North Forsyth on its way to the Silver Bracket finals of the Collins Hill Classic before falling in three games to South Forsyth.
Camilah Baker had 25 kills and 16 blocks at the net, Sydney Marshall had 42 kills and Nicki White added 27 and Lauren Ranney ended the day with 86 assists for Norcross (11-10).
Hebron goes 2-1 at Collins Hill
SUWANEE -- Eden Murray had 34 kills and 18 assists as Hebron beat North Hall and South Forsyth before falling to the host Eagles at the Collins Hill Classic on Saturday.
Maddie Roof had 20 kills and Mini Schulte had 14 kills for the Lions (17-12).
Duluth 2, Morgan Co. 1, 8 innings
MADISON -- Erin Lipps doubled to score Cassie Kooker in the top of the eighth inning and Kayla Brown completed an unassisted double-play in the bottom half as Duluth beat Morgan County 2-1 to win the Morgan County tournament this weekend.
Jeanie Perrucci went 2-for-4 and scored the game's first run in the first inning.
Alpharetta 8, Wesleyan 0
ALPHARETTA -- Amanda DeLaPerriere took the loss for Wesleyan as the Wolves fell to Alpharetta 8-0 on Saturday.
Wesleyan 13, Woodward 1
ATLANTA -- Dacia Jones was the winning pitcher Friday and drove in two runs in Wesleyan's 13-1 win over Woodward in four innings at Georgia Tech.
Jones pitched three innings, allowing one hit and striking out three. She was 2-for-2 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Holli Wilkins was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs. Caitlin Crabill was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Landyn Duley was 1-for-2 with two RBIs, two runs and two walks.
Shiloh 7, Hiram 3
KENNESAW -- Shiloh defeated Hiram on Friday 7-3 in the North Cobb Tournament on Friday.
Amber Johnson had a double, Aaliyah Woods had a double and an RBI, Courtney Jones added a single. Jenna Carr was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits.
