GWINNETT GAB: G-Braves give grant to literacy council

LAWRENCEVILLE -- The Gwinnett Braves announced last week that Athens-Clarke Literacy Council is the recipient of the Gwinnett Braves August 2011 grant.

Athens-Clarke Literacy Council promotes adult literacy by providing basic education for adult readers, those learning English as a second language and GED preparation classes in Athens-Clarke County.

The grant money will go toward buying over 830 bus passes for various students in the ACLC program, allowing more than 70 adult learners to attend classes who would not have the means to do so otherwise.

The Gwinnett Braves Division of the Atlanta Braves Foundation awards monthly grants to local nonprofits. The winner of each month's grant will receive a $1,000 grant, 50 tickets to a Gwinnett Braves game, a concourse table at a game and a check presentation.
