WINDER -- At its September meeting, the Barrow County Board of Education approved a new principal for Apalachee High School.
The decision comes in the wake of former principal David McGee's retirement.
The board voted Sept. 13 to approve Glenn Wilson as the new principal. He currently serves as an assistant principal at Pinckneyville Middle School.
He also has served as an assistant principal at Berkmar High and teacher at Norcross High.
Barrow County Schools Superintendent Wanda Creel said she was grateful to the school governance team members "for their dedication to the process and their commitment to finding the person that will lead Apalachee High School forward."
McGee held the position for five years.
In a letter to Creel dated Aug. 10, McGee stated that "there will never be a time when I will not love the students, and I have to step away at some point. Therefore, I plan to retire effective Aug. 31, 2011."
