LAWRENCEVILLE -- Former Brookwood High School and University of Georgia linebacker Rennie Curran said Thursday that battery charges stemming from a domestic incident in Atlanta will "most likely be dropped by next month."
Curran, 22, and Natalie Quezada, the 23-year-old mother of his daughter, were both arrested by Atlanta police Monday after the incident that occurred on Pharr Court near Buckhead Village. He told the Daily Post his side of the story via Facebook Thursday, an account that mirrored he-said, she-said reports issued by police.
Curran said he and Quezada, also a Brookwood grad, got into an argument as he dropped off their 3-year-old daughter.
"I told her to get out of my car, she hit me and then took my bookbag and threw it in the bushes," he said.
Curran, who was cut by the NFL's Tennessee Titans earlier this month, said he grabbed Quezada by the arm and asked her to retrieve his bookbag, at which point she lost her balance and fell into a thorn bush. Quezada then called police and told them he had pushed her into the bush.
Curran stressed that was something, "I would never do."
Police ultimately arrested both parties and charged each with simple battery. Curran bonded out later that day, and said Thursday that the charges will not stick.
"(Quezada) tried to drop the charges so we both could be let go, but they insisted they had to take us in because it was domestic," he said. "We will not be testifying against each other and everything will most likely be dropped by next month."
Curran was a third-round pick of the Titans in last year's NFL draft, playing mostly on special teams in the 2010 season. The All-SEC performer left the University of Georgia after his junior year in 2009, a season that saw him lead the conference in tackles.
