Holy Innocents' Bears (5-A North)
Coach: Ryan Livezey
Record: 2-1
Last week: Lost to GAC 48-14
Wesleyan Wolves (5-A North)
Coach: Franklin Pridgen
Record: 2-1
Last week: Beat Twiggs County 54-6
The subregion opener is an important matchup between the two teams expected to be frontrunners in Region 5-A North.
"It's a really big game," Wesleyan head coach Franklin Pridgen said. "It's pretty much for control of the subregion. The winner is in a good position for a chance at the region title, a home playoff game, all those things."
Holy Innocents', coached by Norcross grad Ryan Livezey, got the season off to a great start only to get blown out last week by GAC. Wesleyan sports the same record but Pridgen likely feels better about his loss, a close battle with traditional power Elbert County, than Livezey does about his defeat.
The Wolves are coming off an impressive victory at Twiggs County that saw wide receiver/kicker/punter Eric Sunderman shine as a fill-in for injured starting quarterback Will Anderson. The offensive line continued to show its development, paving the way for a near 300-yard rushing night.
Senior Mason Colquitt (three sacks vs. Twiggs), who hasn't played since his freshman season, had another good game at defensive end and Rhett Delk also played well at middle linebacker.
The Wolves are going for their 99th all-time victory.
Last meeting: Wesleyan won 24-10 last year
Directions to Riverwood High School: I-285 west to Riverside Drive exit, go north. At the first light, make a left and school is on the left.
