Therrell Panthers (6-AA, Div. B)
Coach: Tony Rambo
Record: 0-2
Last week: Had a bye
Buford Wolves (6-AA, Div. A)
Coach: Jess Simpson
Record: 4-0
Last week: Beat Yulee (Fla.) 49-7
The Panthers had a bye to prepare for this matchup and they'll need every advantage they can get to keep this one remotely close. Coming within 27 points of Buford — the game's margin last season — would be a success for most teams this season.
The Wolves have dominated their early-season competition, including a 49-7 blowout of Yulee (Fla.) last week on ESPNU. The physical offense ran the ball well, Sam Clay had an efficient passing game again (completing 10 passes for six different receivers) and the defense pitched a shutout until a Yulee touchdown against the Buford reserves in the game's waning moments.
C.J. Moore also was a spark with a pair of long TDs vs. Yulee and Kurt Freitag had 2 sacks to lead the defense, which also got an interception for a score from Shawn Reynolds.
This is the first of two 6-AA crossover games for Buford, which also faces Lovett at home next Friday before opening subregion play against Decatur. Even starting a week earlier than most, the Wolves play eight straight games without a bye to open the season.
Last meeting: Buford won 33-6 last year
Directions to Buford High School: I-985 north to Ga. Highway 20 exit, turn left. Turn right on Buford Highway to Robert Bell Parkway and turn left.
