Last week: Beat Lanier 34-17
Mill Creek may be without starting quarterback John Russ, who suffered a concussion early in last Friday's win over Cherokee. But senior James Holder shifted over from wide receiver and played well in his absence, and the left-hander likely will be called on again tonight.
"Whether (Russ) plays or not, we're very confidence in James and the rest of our offense to execute our game plan," Mill Creek head coach Shannon Jarvis said.
Jarvis was just as pleased with the defense pitching a shutout against Cherokee. Hayden Smith intercepted a pass in the end zone to stop one scoring threat, getting his third pick of the season.
Mountain View earned its first win last Friday, using a strong running game behind Marvin Elam and Eddie West and solid play from quarterback Chris Bartlett to beat Lanier. Bryce McCloud and Tyler Bethune led the Bears' defense.
"We played well," Mountain View head coach Tim Hardy said. "We executed much better than we have. We took care of the football and made some crucial stops in the red zone. Just overall, we played well."
It's the 7-AAAAA opener for both teams.
Last meeting: Mill Creek won 42-6 last year
