Apalachee Wildcats (8-AAAA)
Coach: Shane Davis
Record: 0-2, 0-2 region
Last week: Lost to Flowery Branch 42-20
Salem Seminoles (8-AAAA)
Coach: John Starr
Record: 1-2, 1-2 region
Last week: Lost to Habersham Central 43-39
The Wildcats hope to get into the win column for the first time this season against a Salem team much like themselves.
Both teams have been able to put points on the board, but have had trouble stopping their opponents, which means ball-control will be an extremely important factor.
It is something Apalachee is very capable of with its two-pronged rushing attack led by Stanley Williams and Zay Howard and directed by quarterback Clint Ashe.
"That would help," Davis said. "We actually did a pretty good job of that (in last week's loss to state-ranked Flowery Branch). We also need to find a way to get a couple more stops (on defense) and get ourselves off the field.
"We want to get back to playing the style of play that gives us the best chance to win."
That won't be an easy task as Salem also boasts some playmakers on offense.
Damion Gordon leads the Seminoles' attack, while running back Jahaad Coleman is coming off a three-touchdown effort in last week's loss to Habersham Central, including a 90-yard kickoff return.
"They're athletic on both sides of the ball," Davis said of Salem. "They've got enough skill guys, and they're awfully big on the offensive line. It's just another night in (Region) 8-AAAA."
Last meeting: Apalachee won 24-7 last year
