LAWRENCEVILLE -- This year, more than 37,400 children and teenagers participated in the Gwinnett County Public Library's summer reading program. Many of the children entered statewide sweepstakes as well for a chance to win a $5,000 contribution toward a college savings account.
The Grayson Branch of the Gwinnett County Public Library system was honored for having the greatest number of entries in the state of Georgia.
In addition, the Gwinnett County Public Library system had the greatest percentage of registered users entered into the sweepstakes. The library was awarded $3,058 for children and teen materials and programming.
Lawrenceville man is sharp shooter
LAS VEGAS -- Bill Munier of Lawrenceville is one of more than 650 shooters from across the country who will compete in the 2011 STI USPSA National Handgun Championships.
Scheduled to begin on Friday, the competition will take place in Las Vegas. Shooters will face 20 stages -- or courses of fire -- that are designed to test speed and accuracy using multiple targets.

Tournament scheduled at Lake Lanier Islands
BUFORD -- The Third annual Fun Fest hosted by the Lanier Striper Club is scheduled for 7 a.m. Saturday at Lake Lanier Islands Resort.
More than 220 anglers have entered the event, which will benefit conservation, education and community involvement the Lake Lanier area.
