MONROE -- A Loganville High School student died Sunday in an all-terrain vehicle accident in Walton County, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
Madison Young, 15, of Monroe, died in the Sunday afternoon incident near her hometown that injured another girl, also 15.
Young was a sophomore and soccer player, according to her Facebook page. Friends have established a separate page in her memory.
Georgia State Patrol Capt. Paul Cosper said Young was driving a 2002 Honda Rancher four-wheeler about 1:10 p.m. with Katie Kennedy on the back. Young lost control around a curve on Mount Ena Church Road, about a half mile east of Jack's Creek Road. The vehicle left the roadway, struck an embankment and a tree.
Responders life-flighted Young to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston where she later died. Kennedy was transported by ground to Athens Regional Medical Center. Neither were wearing helmets at the time, Cosper said.
A friend of the family told the Daily Post that Kennedy was in critical condition Monday but was expected to survive.
