X-Men: First Class (Blu-ray) (PG-13)
Movie: 4 out of 4 stars
Disc: 3 1/2 out of 4 stars
Arguably the finest offering thus far in the "X-Men" franchise, director Matthew Vaughn's "First Class" is an origin/prequel that pulls off the rare feat of being smart, entertaining and supremely well-acted. Vaughn and his crew were also able to convincingly pull off a period setting (the early 1960s) while comfortably fictionalizing a major news event and giving the story a brilliantly realistic air; something we rarely get from science-fiction. Performances across the board are fantastic, but Kevin Bacon as a loathsome evil foil is especially memorable.
