Roswell Hornets (6-AAAAA)
Coach: Justin Sanderson
Last week: Lost to Peachtree Ridge 31-2
Norcross Blue Devils (7-AAAAA)
Coach: Keith Maloof
Last week: Beat Parkview 35-14
Roswell’s tough luck against Gwinnett teams continued last week with a lopsided loss to Peachtree Ridge, which made the Hornets 1-7 in their last eight games with Gwinnett.
They’ve also lost six straight to teams from 7-AAAAA, which doesn’t bode well for the matchup with Norcross.
The Blue Devils have defeated two playoff-caliber teams from 8-AAAAA (Dacula 35-7 and Parkview 35-14) already.
Except for the second quarter, when they gave up all 14 Parkview points, they had an impressive outing last week.
Their revamped defense, led by Tanner Maloof’s 20 tackles and Lavonte Cranford’s 15 tackles (five for losses) last week, has played well and the offense has flourished under new starter Joseph Wilber.
He threw for 172 yards and accounted for three scores vs. Parkview, while running back Alvin Kamara had 18 rushes for 126 yards and a score.
“Our football team is still growing up,” Norcross head coach Keith Maloof said. “We’ve got a lot of things to correct. Right now we’re still not the team we can be.”
Last meeting: Norcross won 20-14 last year
