Georgia Public Broadcasting will be at Peachtree Ridge for the Lions’ stiff test in Newnan, which beat LaGrange 27-6 in the season opener and had last week off to prepare for the road trip north. The Cougars used a balanced attack to overwhelm LaGrange two weeks ago, getting good games from quarterback Nick Smith (14 of 18 passing for 174 yards, two TDs) and running back Bryant Ball (16 rushes for 174 yards, two TDs).

Peachtree Ridge rebounded from an opening loss to Walton in the Corky Kell Classic to whip Roswell in Game 2. First-year head coach Mark Fleetwood was impressed with his special teams, including Ahmaad Harris, in that win. Harris had two punt returns for 61 yards and a TD and a 35-yard kickoff return.

Diandre Atwater (10 rushes, 144 yards) and Joe Horn (three catches, 77 yards, TD) led the offense, while Dorian Pogman had three sacks for an improving defense.

“There were some bright spots, but we’re still a long way away from where we need to be,” Fleetwood said. “But there were a lot of improvements from Game 1 to Game 2. I was really pleased on defense. Our tackling got a lot better. There were not nearly as many missed tackles. Billy Best had good game management in the first game, but I thought it was even better this game. And we had great special teams. Special teams took us over the top and that’s what cost us (vs. Walton).”
