Record: 2-0

Last week: Beat Washington-Wilkes 37-19

GAC Spartans (6-AA)

Coach: Tim Cokely

Record: 2-0

Last week: Beat Druid Hills 28-13

Two private schools with solid football traditions play tonight, each with hopes of going 3-0 on the young season. Holy Innocents’, coached by Norcross grad Ryan Livezey, is very sound defensively, a trait the Bears have relied on in recent seasons.

“They do a real good job,” GAC head coach Tim Cokely said. “It’s hard to get them out of position, so you can tell they’re a well-coached team. They play really good defense.

“They haven’t given up much all season.”

GAC is coming off another solid offensive performance in a win over Druid Hills. Chase Roberts (seven pancake blocks) and the line played well, paving the way for a big game by Lavondre Nelson (five rushes for 165 yards in first half). DaSean Daniels (10 tackles, one sack), Andrew Bartolomei (10 tackles, two sacks) and Onyx Berrios (11 tackles) were among the defensive stalwarts in last week’s win.

“Defensively we’re starting to come around,” Cokely said. “We’re starting to see it a little better.”

GAC is making its home debut afer road wins over Columbia and Druid Hills to start the season.

“We’re just glad to be undefeated,” Cokely said. “Columbia was a better team than last year. Druid Hills was a better team than last year.

“Holy Innocents’ is very good, too.”
