Winder-Barrow bulldoggs (8-AAAA)

Coach: David Wagner

Record: 0-1, 0-1 region

Last week: Lost to Rockdale Co. 17-13

The Bulldoggs' 2011 opener looked a lot like the 2010 opener -- a solid defensive effort that came up short.

"It was one of those games where we played pretty solid with the exception of a couple of mistakes," Wagner said. "You always want to come out on top, but the mistakes we made are ones we can correct."

The Bulldoggs had better correct them in a hurry with the No. 5 state-ranked Falcons coming to town.

Buoyed by a huge night from quarterback Kanler Coker (204 yards, 2 TDs through the air and 56 yards and 1 TD on the ground in his first start at Flowery Branch) and running back Jeremy Haley (104 yards, 2 TDs), the Falcons were able to soar in their opener last week.

That presents a stiff challenge to a Bulldoggs defense led by linebackers Levi Worley (11 tackles last week) and Al Schotter (10 tackles).

"They're big and fast and quick," Wagner said of Flowery Branch. "There's a reason why they're the No. 5 team in the state right now. But we had a couple of linebackers who really played well last week. And we're going to have to work hard in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

"You just have to worry about yourself ... against a team like Flowery Branch and make sure you execute your game plan and play to the best of your ability."

Last meeting: Flowery Branch won 28-0 last year
