LETTERS: Retiree in favor of E-SPLOST

On Nov. 8, Gwinnett voters go to the polls for an absolutely critical vote: the renewal of the education special purpose local option sales tax (E-SPLOST).

As a retiree with no children or grandchildren in Gwinnett County Public Schools, I am voting yes. A top-notch education, like that provided to Gwinnett's students, is critical to the economic health and vitality of this county.

In a down economy, it is even more important for Gwinnett to attract high tech, high paying jobs that will rebound our economy and keep our real estate values from slipping into oblivion.

Gwinnett County's well-deserved reputation as a leading school system depends on us doing the right thing for students. The fact that almost 45 percent of this sales tax money will come from shoppers outside our county makes the argument for a "Yes" vote all the better.

A penny (or 1 percent) goes a long way. Will you stand up for Gwinnett County students on Nov. 8? They are counting on you.
