GAC Spartans (6-AA)
Coach: Tim Cokely
Record: 7-1
Last week: Lost to Buford 28-0
It's rebound week for the Spartans, who are coming off their first loss of the season to Buford, the consensus No. 1 team in Class AA. They played well at times against the four-time defending state champion Wolves, but sputtered too much on offense to threaten an upset.
"Defensively, we got off the field four three-and-outs in a row," GAC head coach Tim Cokely said. "Just offensively, the spaces are tighter against a good team. Your execution has to be better and crisper and it wasn't."
The offense shouldn't have any problems with a young Hapeville program playing just its fourth varsity game.
Tate Cooksey, Chase Roberts and the GAC offensive front are more experienced than their Hapeville counterparts, part of what should be a major mismatch with the Hornets, who lost 23-7 to Lanier earlier this season. Hapeville was added to GAC's schedule at the last minute as a replacement for Avondale.
A victory would help heal the wounds from last week's loss, while helping the Spartans enjoy Senior Night.
"I've never had a team that's gone undefeated, so I've dealt with losses before," Cokely joked. "I've always wanted to get back on the field after them and try to do better."
The Spartans will be on the road for Game 10, a region play-in game against the loser of tonight's Lovett-Westminster game.
Last meeting: First meeting
Directions to Greater Atlanta Christian School: From I-85, go east on Indian Trail Road and school is on the right.
