SUWANEE -- Suwanee residents will soon be able to access local crime data online.
On Tuesday, the city of Suwanee and its police department will officially launch their partnership with www.crimereports.com, a database that allows users to sort information by location, type of crime and date. The website will provide basic information about criminal and traffic incidents around Suwanee via icons that appear on a Google map of the city.
The Gwinnett County Police Department, as well as several other municipal departments, have also recently begun using the free website.
"This service will show citizens what's going on where in the community," Suwanee police Lt. Dan Clark said. "This site also gives the police department a whole lot more crime analysis capabilities."
Residents can also submit tips, view trends and set up alerts and updates on the site.
Suwanee users can access information directly at www.crimereports.com/agency/SuwaneePD, or by following the "crime data" link on the police department page at www.suwanee.com.
